What is a rapid antigen test?
A Covid-19 rapid antigen test is a body fluid test kit to detect the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 that causes coronavirus (COVID-19). Nasal or oral fluids are tested for covid-19 in order to get a result within 15-20 minutes after testing. It must be stressed that AllTest has an in-vitro diagnostic accuracy of 94.9%-98.5%. This means that it is possible to have the virus and get a negative result, or not have the virus and test positive. For this reason, they are for self-testing in-vitro diagnostic use only.
Each test can only be used one time. Do not reuse a rapid antigen test.
Positive test results
If you have received a positive test result, follow the guidelines for your state or territory for self-isolation. Contact your local doctor, health clinic or health department for further instruction. They will inform you of the next steps. Depending on state guidelines, you may be required to confirm the results with a PCR test.
Negative test results
As it is possible to receive a false negative at some points during infection, it is advised that if you are currently experiencing covid-19 symptoms, that you test again with a PCR or another rapid antigen test as soon as possible. For a list of local testing services, contact your local public health department.
How to use a rapid antigen test kit
Each test kit will slightly differ. They will each come with a package insert with useful information on how to use the test properly. Taking a nasal swab for a nasal sample or oral sample properly is important for accurate results. If you are unsure how to use your test after reading the instructions, call your local health centre or government helpline such as Medicines Line.
Please ensure you read the package insert containing all the information about the tests and how to use them before performing the test.
Rapid antigen test kits are suitable for use by adults or under the direct supervision of adults.
Negative results may not exclude infection with SARS-CoV-2 (coronavirus/ Covid-19).
Positive results or those displaying strong characteristic symptoms of covid must have a PCR test to confirm a diagnosis of the virus. To prevent the spread of the virus, contact your local doctor, health clinic or health department and follow self-isolation guidelines for your state or territory while following their instructions.
Failure to use the test properly can cause the test results to become inaccurate.
