Overview

Mounjaro Online Australia

We do not currently offer Mounjaro (Tizepatide) at Simple Online Doctor as the auto-injector pen still awaiting release in the Australian market. The vial variation of Mounjaro has been released and can be prescribed by consultation with your doctor and injection training. Speak to your doctor to see if it is right for you. It has been registered for use in Australia for people with type 2 diabetes by the Therapeutic Goods Administration as of late 2022 and had a partial release of the listed forms in October 2023 to the Australian public.

After the initial limited release in Australia, it is speculated that Mounjaro’s manufacturer Eli Lilly would continue current studies to expand Mounjaro’s registered uses as well as ensure they have enough stock to allocate to Australian patients under the expanded registered uses. This is particularly important given other GLP-1 receptor agonists like Mounjaro have experienced supply issues due to popularity and complex manufacturing in recent years.

When will Mounjaro be available in Australia?

Currently, there is no confirmed date of release for Mounjaro auto-injector pens in Australia. The vial form can be considered by your regular doctor for people with type 2 diabetes in accordance with its registered use.

Prior to an expanded release in Australia, it is speculated that Mounjaro’s manufacturer Eli Lilly would like to finalise current studies to expand Mounjaro’s registered uses as well as ensure they have enough stock to allocate to Australian patients under further indicated uses. This is particularly important given Mounjaro is a GLP-1 receptor agonist and like other medicines in this family, it has experienced shortages due to popularity and complex manufacturing in recent years.

What will Mounjaro cost in Australia?

Currently, there is no confirmed cost of Mounjaro pens in Australia. Mounjaro vials are likely to be between $350 to $700 a month depending on your dose. Like other treatments in its medicine family, GLP-1 receptor agonists, it is a high but similar price.

Whilst this can be high in comparison to other treatments that are available, the complex manufacturing and transport processes generally contribute to the higher-end cost.

Eli Lilly's first application for Mounjaro's PBS listing failed after failure to meet its cost-effectiveness test. Further applications to be listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) as a public health measure are likely. If approved, it will greatly reduce the cost to patients in Australia.

How to get Mounjaro in Australia

Once it is released to the Australian public, it will be a prescription only medicine. To buy Mounjaro you will need to consult a registered Australian doctor online or in person. If you are suitable for the treatment the doctor should be able to provide a prescription. The prescription can then be filled by an Australian registered pharmacy.
